Bible Companion

Privacy Policy

Last updated: April 2026.

This is the single, official Privacy Policy for Bible Companion: it covers the iOS app, Android app, and biblecompanion.in in the browser. The in-app “Privacy Policy” link and App Store / Play Store listings should point here — there is no separate mobile-only policy.

Data Collection

We collect the following types of data:

  • Usage Analytics: App usage statistics, screen views, feature interactions, and time spent on screens through Google Firebase Analytics and Amplitude. This is product usage analytics to improve Bible Companion — we do not use it to show you ads, sell your data, or track you across other companies’ apps or websites for advertising or marketing.
  • Device Information: Device ID (Android ID or iOS identifierForVendor), device model, and operating system.
  • User Preferences: Nickname (optional), reading progress, and liked verses stored locally on your device.
  • Location Data: If you grant location permission, we may use coarse / approximate location (for example region or city level) for analytics aggregation — not continuous precise GPS tracking, and not for advertising. If you do not grant permission, we do not collect location this way.
  • Push Notifications: To send you daily verse notifications at your chosen time, we use Firebase Cloud Messaging and store your device push token, timezone (e.g. Asia/Kolkata), your chosen notification time, and language preference on our servers (Google Firebase). This data is used only to deliver notifications at the right time in your local time. You can turn off notifications in app settings at any time.

Mobile app (iOS and Android) — analytics are not “tracking” for ads: Optional usage analytics in the app use Firebase Analytics and Amplitude under your in-app choice (e.g. enable or decline). We do not use Apple’s App Tracking Transparency (ATT) framework for this, and we do not use the IDFA or similar identifiers to track you across third-party apps or websites for advertising. Analytics may use pseudonymous identifiers tied to your installation or device vendor ID so we can measure retention and flows; we also use aggregated and de-identified reporting. Your nickname is stored locally on the device and may be sent to Firebase Analytics and Amplitude (for example as a hashed value or user property) only for product analytics and in-app personalization — not for cross-app ad profiles.

This website only (biblecompanion.in in the browser): The cookie banner’s Accept and Decline apply only to loading Google Analytics and Amplitude on this site. They are not the same as the mobile app’s separate analytics consent screen. If you Accept, or if you confirm analytics when saving your display name or organization (welcome modal or Account — you can uncheck the box to opt out), those tools may load. One of those website choices is enough. Until you accept on the site, Google Analytics and Amplitude are not loaded from the banner path. If you choose Decline on the banner, it may appear again on a later visit until you accept. If you save a display name, we may send it to Amplitude as the User ID (so we can recognize you in our analytics dashboards) as well as user properties; removing your name from Account clears that association for future events on that browser. We also use Cloudflare Web Analytics for high-level, privacy-oriented page views and traffic metrics; it is separate from the cookie choice for Google Analytics and Amplitude. See Cloudflare’s documentation for how that product handles data.

How We Use Your Data

The data we collect is used to:

  • Improve app functionality and user experience
  • Identify bugs and performance issues
  • Understand how users interact with the app and website
  • Provide personalized features (e.g., greeting with your nickname)
  • Deliver daily verse push notifications at your chosen time and in your preferred language (using timezone and notification preferences)

We do not sell your personal information. We do not use Firebase Analytics or Amplitude to track you across unrelated third-party apps or sites for advertising or marketing, or to build cross-app advertising profiles.

Legal Basis (GDPR Article 6): We process your data based on your consent and our legitimate interest in improving our services.

Data Retention

  • Local Data: Your nickname, reading progress, and liked verses are stored on your device and can be deleted by uninstalling the app or using the reset feature.
  • Analytics Data: Firebase Analytics retains data according to Google's data retention policies (typically 14 months). Amplitude retains data according to its data retention policy.
  • Location Data: Coarse location used for analytics is not stored as an ongoing precise trail; it is used for analytics aggregation consistent with your permission and our providers’ retention.
  • Push Notification Data: Your FCM token, timezone, and notification preferences are stored in Firebase and retained according to our and Google's policies. Disabling notifications in app settings or uninstalling the app stops further use of this data for push notifications.

Third-Party Services

We use Google Firebase Analytics and Amplitude for data collection. We also use Firebase Cloud Messaging and Firestore to deliver push notifications (e.g. daily verse). Data may be transferred to and processed by Google and Amplitude (or their processors) servers located outside the European Economic Area (EEA). Both are certified under appropriate data protection frameworks.
